Getting back into archery after 45 years absence, I searched for a basic lightweight, inexpensive bow. The PSE Snake -- actually made by Arc-Rolan -- was for me a perfect choice: simple, sturdy, competent, smooth, and more accurate than I am! I like its looks, too.
With a draw of 22 lb at 28 in, you may think it's a toy. Not so! Although it's better suited to shorter ranges, I've shot 3D targets at 60 - 70 yards. And I draw it 29 - 30 inches with no complaints.
On the negative side -- and not very negative -- the Snake's lightweight ambedextrous recurve configuration calls for light, flexible arrows, preferably with feather fletching. Those can be a challenge to find in the popular mass of center-shot bows and mega-carbon shafts. But even with sub-optimal arrows, it shoots pretty well.
The Snake is a good-looking, good-shooting recurve bow for under $50. Where else can you find that?
